About Payton
Hello students,
The first thing I want you to know is that I am here to help you. I am not here to tell you how to take notes the "right" way or how you are "supposed" to study. I am here to help you develop techniques and skills that work for you and help you grow to your fullest educational potential.
I know that English is a subject that you might struggle with--or might even despise. I understand that. Hopefully, we can create a system that helps you understand, engage, and relate to the material you bring in. Maybe, at the end of the day, you might end up even liking it.
Regardless, by the end of our tutoring sessions, I want you to feel comfortable and confident working with, analyzing, and discussing whatever material you bring in. I will do my absolute best to make that happen.

Hello students and parents!
My tutoring is very individualized and communication-based. As a student, I often struggled with traditional academic structure, so I make it my mission to help each of my students learn in a way that they feel comfortable and confident engaging with.
I tutor any level of high school English, along with creative writing. My approach to each of them is establishing a system that works for the individual. For some, that looks like consistently structured, traditional note-taking and help with assignments in the present moment. For others, that looks like fluid communication and scheduled check-ins, along with breaking down larger assignments into smaller steps with earlier deadlines to make big projects seem less daunting.
I find that the best approach to education, especially for those who struggle with the "normal" model, is leaning into strength to help in areas we can grow in. I say this as someone who doubted her ability for a long time before I found out what systems worked for me--often outside of the usual structure of academia.
I believe every student has potential in them, it's a matter of finding out their individual way of accessing it.
