About Rachel
Hi! My name is Rachel and I love learning! I'm passionate about media literacy (which means literacy in terms of all forms of media, not just writing) and about every person having a voice and means to express themselves. This is why I love teaching and tutoring. I also love being a student myself. My BA is in Film Studies, my MA is in Media Literacy, and I'm in my 3rd year of an English PhD program, with a concentration on Rhetoric & Composition. I do have years of experience as a tutor in my university's Writing Center, where I became the Assistant Director and trained other tutors. I have now switched to a teaching position at my university, currently teaching Intro to College Reading & Writing, College Reading & Writing, and Written Argument and Research. In the past, I have also taught a film class on Film Noir and taught English to Chinese children online.

As a tutor, I believe in being as collaborative as possible. I am not just there to tell you what to do. We will be working together. If you bring a project to work on, it will remain yours. The goal of the tutoring session is to not only make this project better, but to make you a better writer or critical thinker. It is also very important to me that every person has a voice and the ability to share it. Therefore, I want to help every student have a voice and be able to share it either through their writing or any other form of media, like film, short videos, podcasts, etc. While I have the most experience with undergraduate and graduate students, I would be comfortable assisting high school students. I am willing to help with any type of project, from application essays to dissertations, at any point in the process, from brainstorming to polishing the final draft. I am comfortable going over topics within the fields of English, composition, rhetoric, academic writing, film studies & criticism, and media studies & literacy, or I can help with any academic writing in terms of editing and proofreading.

Rachel, my previous colleague in TAMUC writing center, takes seriously of every client's needs. She also helped me revise and edit my essay, providing insightful ideas. I trust her as a good friend and excellent tutor anytime. She is a sweet nerd and extremely knowledgeable in nearly every topic. Working with her is always exciting and fruitful.
Rachel is an amazing teacher and a dependable, frank, and knowledgeable person. Rachel is dedicated to meeting students where they are and working collaboratively to reach academic goals with the student. Rachel not only helps the students arrive to conclusions, she shows them how to get there themselves.
Rachel is a brilliant teacher and deeply cares about the people around her. She is brilliant at pinpointing issues and addressing them in ways that are clear and helpful. Rachel has checked over numerous assignments for my degrees at King's College London and at the University of Cambridge, offering useful advice that has boosted my confidence. Any one tutored my Rachel will be guaranteed to receive an excellent service. She is highly recommended.
Rachel is one of the most genuine, authentic, helpful, and dedicated people I’ve ever met. She is brilliant. Not only does she really know her stuff but she knows how to help other people know their stuff too. She is very good at simplifying complex answers and giving examples from daily life. She does whatever she can to help someone succeed and it gives her great pride to be helpful to others. I have known Rachel for 16 years and all of this has always been true. We met in college and have stayed in contact through many stages of life. She has personally helped me with improving my writing and also helping me to understand media. We’ve had great discussions about our various teaching philosophies. Rachel is a superb tutor with lots of knowledge from pop culture and academia.
