About Elizabeth

I am a former certified English teacher (grades 6-12 in the U.S.) with extensive experience tutoring all ages, from first grade phonics to adult ESL. As a Fellow at a university Center for Writing and Scholarship, I created and led writing workshops and tutored graduate students across programs. I also taught English classes K-12 in Ukraine as a Peace Corps volunteer, and as an AmeriCorps member I managed a tutoring center for children that struggled with reading. Currently I work in academic publishing. I love helping students cultivate skill, joy, and confidence in their language abilities!

My teaching style is informed by the classical education tradition. Classical education requires the study and emulation of excellent works and methods that have withstood the test of time.

About the lesson

I appreciate how a relationship can be built and the lesson can be customized when tutoring one-on-one. This attention gives the student an opportunity to express confusion about or mastery of the topic and be seen as a developing individual. I value the human side of education and view it as a way for people to move toward wisdom and accomplishment.

It has been a joy to tutor Olga and Shantanu's son Darsh. He actively wants to improve his writing and grammar skills, and he's growing in his knowledge of Latin vocabulary roots as well. I look forward to seeing him progress as he enters 9th grade!
