About Letícia Burity

I have experience in proofreading but I always enjoyed to help my friends giving answers, exchanging information, explaining how words are written and their pronunciation.
I've started my internship at my college in 2016 (the State University of Rio de Janeiro) where I proofread texts for digital publishing. Then I had the great opportunity to be accepted for a bilingual internship at South Zone Supermarket during Olympic and Paralympic Games 2016. I helped foreign customers to finds their products, gave information and interpreted them when was necessary (because employees didn't know English). Not only I helped English speakers but also Spanish ones. Of course, I don't know well Spanish, but my high school classes were vital in my life. Also, I might mention that foreigner people taught me a lot, for instance, the name of products, fruits, vegetables, etc. There was a boy who taught me grammar and phonetics. Well, I began another internship as a proofreader in 2017 at the Brazilian Mission Board of Brazilian Baptist Convention (which is still where I work). I proofread texts, articles, books, posts for Facebook, accompany the book editorial process (since their production until their publication) and request ISBN which is an international number to make a book be commercialized.
I have a certificate of the Grammar Course for Proofreaders of Book's University, the State University of São Paulo, which was a course that helped me with Portuguese grammar and I surely recommend! Also, I studied the basic level of Brazilian sign language, which is a language I love! But my first love, English, I began learning at school, like everybody else, then, I entered a public course where I learned a lot of English with amazing teachers! But unfortunately, I couldn't finish the course. So I studied alone, watching movies subtitled in English and then trying hard to turn off the subtitles, listening to music and trying to understand its lyrics. Finally, what I know now is because I fought against my laziness in order to understand English without translation.

About the lesson

I study Modern Arts: English and Literature at UERJ, I live in Rio de Janeiro and I teach English for children, adolescents, and young people. With dynamic classes, Netflix and music are part of the lessons and WhatsApp is used to follow my student's development in learning. The contents are contextualized and updated for each age. Also, I teach English including school tutoring for primary and secondary education.
I want to experience with my student the opportunity to teach, sharing what I know, giving answers, but I do not want a vertical education, in which I, being the teacher, hold all knowledge, and my companion, the student, is a layman. The learning process becomes a relationship environment, in which teacher and student have the same level, in a system of horizontality. In this course, I want a close contact so that I can keep track of my student's progress in his learning course and I hope for a mutual relationship.
The price of the lesson hour is accessible because I am aware of the current situation in Brazil.
