About Molly
MUSIC BACKGROUND
I have loved music for as long as I can remember. I have played piano since I was seven and I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Music from Thomas Edison State University in 2016.
In addition to teaching piano, I enjoy accompanying in a variety of roles and I currently serve as one of the rotating pianists at my church (First Baptist Church of Durham).
TEACHING BACKGROUND
I have a passion for teaching. I absolutely love working with children, creating lesson plans, and experimenting with a variety of games, teaching methods, and motivational systems. In addition to teaching piano, I have taught in a range of areas. I have tutored reading, writing and history, I have taught Vacation Bible School and preschool Sunday School for several years, and I am currently the coordinator for my church's ESL class for children.
PIANO TEACHING BACKGROUND
I love that I can combine my love for music and teaching through teaching piano. Over the past eleven years, I've taught students of every age from four to seventeen and I've worked with a total of over fifty children. Teaching piano has been so much fun as I've discovered new ways to get young children engaged and enthusiastic about learning. In addition, it's been a delightful and rewarding experience to watch students progress over the years.

My greatest desire as a teacher is to instill a love for learning and a love for music in each of my students. My goal is to help students to develop a solid foundation in music theory, to become proficient in reading music and playing with expression, and to become confident in performing.
In the process, I hope to pass along some of the lessons I have learned through my own piano studies: that practicing requires dedication, that diligence and persistent effort really do pay off, and that practicing piano develops character traits that are even more important than musical knowledge or experience.
I believe that children who apply themselves to practicing will gain more than just musical skills. It may be the motivation to complete daily chores. Or it may be the determination not to give up when solving a series of difficult proofs in geometry. Or it may even be the preparation to handle a high-pressure basketball tournament or an important college interview. Ultimately, the skills acquired through learning an instrument are ones that can be applied throughout a child's entire life.
