About Marielena
Graduated from Cal-State Northridge with a B.A. in TV, Film, and Media Theory and a B.S. in Psychology. Graduated from Cal-State Los Angeles with an M.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Film Studies.
As someone who has been a student for a total of 23 years, I'd say I became a pro at it. I have always enjoyed school mainly because I love to learn new things, and now I get to teach about the subjects I am most fascinated with! Psychology and media are both used daily, and I love dissecting how these two subjects apply to our lives.
I enjoyed learning about these subjects, but can now say the student has become the teacher.

Being a jack of all trades, I have always had more than one focus. With a background in psychology as well as film studies, I enjoy examining the differences between the two subjects, but even more so, the ways the two intersect.
As a psychology tutor, I will primarily focus on introductory psychology where we will analyze significant case studies, influential psychologists, and discuss the multiple methodologies used in the field of psychology. Appropriate for 9-12 graders and college freshmen.
As a film studies tutor, I will demonstrate how to critically analyze text through various methodologies such as feminist studies, gender studies, as well as race, class, and sexuality studies. Appropriate for 11th and 12th graders as well as college freshmen and sophomores.
Having also worked as a teacher's assistant, I have the skills and knowledge to mentor as a college advisor for high school juniors and seniors who need help with completing college applications and financial aid applications.
