About Abhishek

About the lesson

Many scholars, practitioners, and cultural critics argue that yoga has been appropriated by the West and commercially repackaged to suit Western tastes, often stripping it of its spiritual and philosophical roots. Traditional yoga (as practiced in India) is a spiritual discipline that includes ethics (yamas/niyamas), meditation, breathwork (pranayama), and physical postures (asanas). In the West, it's often reduced to just the physical exercise aspect, ignoring the broader purpose of self-realization or union with the divine.
