About Martin

I studied music 20 years ago at the Hochschule der Kuenste in Bern, Switzerland and have been a professional musician and music teacher ever since. I worked for different music schools in Zurich - Musikschule Buelach - , Berlin - Musikschule Lichterfelde West - and Vienna - the Music Workshop - and taught at international workshops - Jazzseminare Innsbruck - as well as privately. My students were of all different ages from 7 till 85 years old, amongst them many late beginners! I belief that the saxophone and the clarinet are both wonderful instruments to pick up at any age. I teach any music style the students would like to do and belief that learning music is most effective by actually playing music. Therefore I am a big fan of duo music during classes. As a musician I worked primarily in jazz bands as well as with pop, soul, blues and world music musicians. I played on cruise ships, with big bands and in theatre bands. I also composed and arranged for different CD productions and worked as a studio musician. Currently I´m doing a masters in film composition at the University of Bristol.

About the lesson

I usually teach 50 minutes long lessons. That is enough time to do a proper warm up, work on some exercises, look at some new material and most import and play some real music. I like doing duos or accompany on the piano if possible. I usually bring classical music as well as jazz, pop or folk music to the lessons but I´m generally very open to the student’s musical preferences. I can teach music theory and improvisation as well if the student is interested. I´ve taught very young to very mature students, beginners to advanced ones and I belief that everyone learns at his or her own pace. I love to encourage everyone to enjoy playing and learning music to the fullest!
