I have: - taught maths, English and study skills to students of varying ages and abilities, since 2014. - taught 200+ students since October 2017 and have 5000+ hours of tutoring experience. - been tutoring students online as well as in-person since May 2019. - masters and undergraduate degree (MMath) in Pure Mathematics from Warwick University. I have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Maths National Curriculum, as well as specifications and expectations for exams : - 9-1 GCSE Maths and Further Maths - A-level Maths and Further Maths - Key Stage 2 Maths SATs Experience in local schools I have spent over 1000 hours in schools supporting the learning of 3-18 year olds: teaching full classes of 3-5 year-olds as a student teacher, helping year 6 pupils revise for SATs and volunteering in a secondary school for young people with special educational needs. I have current and past experience of tutoring students with a range of specific needs including, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and dyslexia, as well as students with English as an additional language. I also have supported the learning of young people with other needs such as Down`s syndrome, developmental delay and communication difficulties, when helping 0-5 year-olds in a specialist SEN unit within a mainstream nursery, 3-11 year-olds in mainstream school and 11-19 year-olds at a Special school.

Teaching approach From my tutoring experience I am very aware of the concepts that often confuse students. When a student expresses confusion I will find out exactly what is giving them difficulties by breaking down the problem into its separate elements and building from a place of understanding, so learning has solid foundations. I teach concepts using examples, pictures and manipulatives. I use White Rose Maths and a variety of other resources to enable mastery and understanding, I challenge students to try things for themselves, under my support and guidance, so my students are empowered to take control of their own learning. I like to know as much as possible about the students I am teaching so that I can base my teaching upon their current knowledge, learning styles and life experiences. I also have experience teaching students who are working beyond the expected level, setting challenging problems and introducing new concepts from outside the curriculum, or teaching ahead of the curriculum with a more structured approach. Key Stage 2 With this age group I often use targeted games and puzzles to help students gain confidence, improve understanding and practise mental arithmetic. Of the students who I tutored through the Key Stage 2 Maths and English SATs, all of them achieved at least the expected standard and all the students I have tutored for entrance exams (to Bradford Grammar School, North Halifax Grammar School and Heckmondwike Grammar School) have passed these exams. GCSEs I have an in-depth knowledge of the content and expectations for GCSE maths at both foundation and higher tier, under the new 9-1 specification, having tutored several students in 2017-2023 for their maths and further maths GCSEs and iGCSE with Edexcel, AQA, OCR and WJec exam boards. I am very aware of the topics that students at this level commonly struggle with such as negative numbers, fractions, ratio and algebraic thinking; I am ready to help students tackle these conceptual confusions. Many students also struggle with putting their mathematical knowledge into practice so I use questions from GCSE past papers where possible. A-Levels I have experience tutoring students for their A-levels and AS-levels in both Maths and Further Maths via AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and OCR Mei in Pure, Statistics, Mechanics and Decision. I always try to use questions from past papers and sample papers to help students practise and prepare. All of the students who I tutored for their Maths A-level have achieved the grades they required to go onto their chosen university courses. I have also continued tutoring one of these students for their Undergraduate Maths Degree. Home-learners I have had the pleasure to tutor several students who are not going to school or college. I am happy to work with students or parents to create individual and flexible curriculums to help you achieve your goals, to keep consistent with school's curriculums or to take responsibility for the direction of students' mathematical learning completely; my preferred curriculum is the White Rose Maths Scheme of Learning, which emphasises mathematical mastery through problem solving. Adult students I have tutored and am currently tutoring adults from diverse backgrounds and with various ability levels, helping them to gain confidence in maths for work and life, so that they can develop their careers and fulfil their goals. I have tutored or am currently tutoring adult students in maths at a variety of levels: - Maths degree - A Levels - USA SATs - GCSEs - Level 1 and 2 functional skills - Primary school level mathematics - Maths pedagogy - Mental arithmetic and maths for life
