About Zoey
Art is at the heart of who I am. From the moment I picked up my first pencil, I’ve been captivated by the ability to create something unique. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in drawing, painting, and exploring new art forms, and now I’m continuing that journey at the Alberta University of the Arts. My experience as an animation assistant and creating murals has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of styles and mediums, which I bring into my teaching. But more than just the skills, I’m passionate about helping others unlock their creativity. I understand that art is personal, and everyone has their own pace and path to follow. My approach as a tutor is collaborative—I work closely with you to understand your goals, challenges, and strengths. Whether you’re looking to build a portfolio, explore new techniques, or simply enjoy the process of creating, I’m here to support and guide you every step of the way. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most to you, creating a lesson plan that helps you grow and gain confidence in your work. I value patience, open communication, and a fun, positive environment that makes learning feel less like a task and more like an enjoyable experience. Your success and satisfaction are my priority, and I’m here to ensure that you reach your full artistic potential, no matter where you're starting from.

My Approach as a Tutor:
As a tutor, my goal is to create a nurturing and engaging environment where students feel empowered to express themselves and develop their artistic skills. I believe that art is about personal growth, exploration, and creative expression, so I tailor my lessons to fit each student’s unique needs and interests.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
I combine traditional teaching methods with modern approaches to art. My lessons are based on a strong foundation of technique, but I also encourage students to push boundaries and experiment with different styles, mediums, and creative ideas. I integrate practical exercises with discussions on art history and theory to help students understand the context of their work and find their artistic voice.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Warm-up (10-15 minutes): Quick sketching or drawing exercises to loosen up and sharpen observation skills.
Main Lesson (30-45 minutes): Focus on the core skill or concept for the day—whether it's refining a painting technique, exploring a new medium, or working on an illustration project.
Review & Feedback (15-20 minutes): I provide constructive feedback, discussing areas for improvement and helping students reflect on their progress.
Assignments & Goals: I set individual tasks or goals for the student to work on before the next lesson to encourage continuous growth.
What Sets Me Apart:
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive experience in both traditional art forms and modern design techniques. I bring practical insights from my work as an animation assistant, my experience creating murals, and my academic journey at the Alberta University of the Arts. This diverse background allows me to offer a holistic approach that blends creative freedom with technical precision.
Additionally, I emphasize building confidence and finding your unique artistic style, rather than just copying what you see. Every lesson with me is an opportunity to push boundaries, experiment, and grow as an artist.
Who My Lessons Are For:
My lessons are perfect for individuals of all levels, from beginners to those preparing their portfolios for higher education or professional work. Whether you're interested in fine arts, illustration, painting, or design, I can guide you through the fundamentals or help refine your advanced skills. These lessons are especially beneficial for high school students, college-bound artists, or anyone wanting to deepen their artistic practice.
