About Katie
I completed my TEFL course in 2018 and have 4 years experience teaching English privately to both adults and children. I spent 2 years working as ESOL coordinator for a charity working with adult refugees and asylum seekers. I have taught students from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, therefore I have a good understanding of the unique challenges that different people can face when learning English. Through this I am have particular experience teaching literacy.
I recently completed a degree in Modern Languages, focusing on English Linguistics and Spanish. This has deepened my knowledge of the functionality of the English Language. My personal experience as a language learner has allowed me to see things from the perspective of a student. I am a calm and patient tutor and aim to give my students confidence in their speaking at any level.
I like to create unique classes that suit each students learning style.

I take a communicative approach and aim to create classes that are relevant to my students, with plenty of opportunity to use the language; breaking the stereotype that language learning is just memorising lists of grammar! My classes are relaxed and personal, and I draw on my own experience as both a student and teacher to create classes that are engaging and memorable; I believe that we learn the best when we can apply our skills in relevant contexts, and this is always at the core of my lessons.
