About Halima

I am an experienced and fully qualified mathematics teacher with a PGCE in Mathematics, a Master’s degree, and over six years’ teaching experience in Further Education in the North West of England. I currently work in teacher management, while continuing to teach GCSE Mathematics (including resits), Functional Skills Maths, and Entry Level qualifications.

My teaching is grounded in a mastery approach to mathematics, ensuring learners develop secure understanding before progressing. This approach has led to a consistently high pass rate at GCSE Foundation level, particularly for learners who have previously struggled with maths.

I have extensive experience teaching both young people and adult learners, and I am especially skilled at supporting students who lack confidence or have had negative experiences with mathematics. I create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress at their own pace.

With a strong academic background in both mathematics and science, I bring clarity, professionalism, and high expectations to every lesson. My aim is not only to help students achieve their qualifications, but also to build lasting confidence and a positive relationship with learning.

About the lesson

Approach to Tutoring & Teaching

My approach to tutoring is clear, structured, and confidence-building, underpinned by a mastery approach to mathematics. I believe that all learners can succeed in maths when concepts are taught in depth, misconceptions are addressed early, and understanding is secured before moving on. This approach has resulted in a consistently high pass rate at GCSE Foundation level, particularly with resit learners.

I focus on breaking concepts down into manageable steps, identifying gaps in understanding, and helping learners build both skills and confidence. Lessons are interactive and supportive, with a strong emphasis on fluency, reasoning, and problem solving, alongside exam technique where appropriate.

Diagnostic assessment to identify strengths and misconceptions

Clear modelling using step-by-step explanations and worked examples

Scaffolded practice leading to independent problem solving

Typical Lesson Length

60 minutes per lesson

PGCE in Mathematics

Master’s degree

Undergraduate degree in Science

6 years’ experience teaching in a Further Education college in the North West of England

Extensive experience teaching:

GCSE Mathematics (with a strong track record at Foundation level)

GCSE resit learners

Functional Skills Maths (Entry Level to Level 2)

Younger learners and adult learners

Currently working in teacher management while continuing to teach GCSE resits, Functional Skills, and Entry Level maths

My background in science allows me to support learners with science subjects where appropriate, though my primary focus is mathematics.
