About Blanca

I'm a final-year Aeronautical Engineering student at the University of Glasgow, originally from Barcelona. I went through the IB myself not long ago, so I remember what it's like to sit HL Maths papers and to write an IA from scratch, including the parts that are more confusing than anyone admits at the time. Outside tutoring I work on aerospace projects and I'm applying for postgraduate study in space systems, which is largely why I enjoy teaching this material: it's the same mathematics I use, so I can usually tell a student where a topic actually leads. I teach in English and Spanish.

About the lesson

I tutor IB Mathematics (AA and AI, SL and HL), A Level Maths and Further Maths, and GCSE Maths. I have 4 years of tutoring experience with leading tutoring companies, alongside my own private students.

I completed the IB Diploma myself in 2023 with 7s in HL Maths and HL Physics, and I'm now in my final year of a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Glasgow, so the material is still current for me rather than something I last touched years ago.

Lessons usually run 60 minutes, or 90 for exam-period sessions and Internal Assessment work. I start by having the student attempt a problem while I watch, because where someone gets stuck is more informative than where they end up. From there we work through past-paper questions together, and I explain each step against the actual markscheme so students learn what earns method marks.

For A Level and GCSE the approach shifts to match how those papers are written. A Level questions are heavily structured and repeat a fixed set of forms, so I teach students to recognise the question type before they start writing — which board (Edexcel, AQA, OCR) matters here, since the phrasing and the expected layout differ. We work topic by topic through past papers, then move to mixed sets so students can identify a question type cold rather than only when they know the chapter it came from. For GCSE I focus on the higher-mark structured questions where most marks are won or lost, and on setting out working clearly enough to pick up method marks even when the final answer is wrong.
