About Ivan

Hi! I'm a passionate math tutor with over 20 years of dedicated experience in private tutoring. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of students — each with their own unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles. This experience has taught me something important: every student can succeed in math with the right guidance and support.
What sets me apart is my patience and adaptability. I've spent over a decade learning how to explain the same concept in five different ways until I find the one that works for each individual student. Math can feel overwhelming, but I firmly believe that struggle is just part of the learning process — and my job is to make that process feel safe, structured, and even enjoyable.
My students don't just learn how to solve problems — they learn how to think mathematically. I focus on building deep understanding rather than short-term memorization. When a student truly grasps the "why" behind a method, they become independent learners who can tackle new challenges with confidence.
Over the years, I've helped students go from failing grades to top marks, overcome math anxiety, and develop a genuine appreciation for the subject. There is no better feeling than watching a student realize they are capable of something they once thought was impossible.
I offer a free first lesson so you can experience my teaching style with zero pressure and zero commitment. I look forward to working with you or your child and making math a subject to look forward to rather than dread.

About the lesson

I've been tutoring maths for over 20 years, working with hundreds of students across all age groups — from young children learning their first numbers to senior students preparing for final exams.
My approach is simple: I meet every student where they are. In our first session, I take time to understand what the student is comfortable with and where the gaps are.
How I teach: I don't just show how to solve a problem and move on. I guide the student step by step, asking questions along the way so they develop real understanding — not just memorisation. I use visual explanations, plenty of worked examples, and practice problems that gradually increase in difficulty. When a student gets stuck, I break the concept down in a different way until it clicks.
A typical session lasts 60 minutes. We start with a quick review of what we covered last time, move into the main topic, work through problems together, and finish with a short recap. I also provide practice problems between sessions for students who want extra work.
My lessons are for students of all levels:

Primary (Year 1–6) — number sense, fractions, decimals, geometry basics
Lower Secondary (Year 7–10) — algebra, equations, graphing, ratios, NAPLAN preparation
Upper Secondary (Year 11–12) — functions, trigonometry, calculus, exam techniques

All lessons are online via Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype, using screen sharing and a digital whiteboard. I'm patient, encouraging, and I genuinely enjoy that moment when a student finally says "Oh, I get it now!"
First lesson is free — so we can get to know each other and see if we're a good fit before any commitment.
