About Qing

Hello! My name is Qing, and I'm originally from Shanghai, now living in Southbank, Melbourne. I am a dedicated scholar with a focus on Chinese culture, history, and particularly Chinese classical gardens. With a background in academic research and experience in both in-person and online lectures, I bring a depth of knowledge to each lesson.

Having visited numerous heritage sites, including historic buildings and gardens across China and Australia, I’m passionate about sharing the richness of Chinese culture with a broader group of people who share similar values with me.

In my classes, you’ll gain not only foundational knowledge of the language but also an immersive gateway into Chinese history and culture, designed to provide you with a deep and nuanced understanding. Whether you're just beginning or looking to deepen your existing knowledge, I am here to guide you every step of the way.

About the lesson

For Chinese Culture and History: I use engaging presentation slides that outline a clear timeline of significant historical events and introduce key figures in Chinese history. Each lesson explores a different aspect of Chinese culture, making it easy to follow and richly informative. Students have the option to attend a structured series for a comprehensive overview of Chinese history or choose specific topics to deepen their knowledge. I aim to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of China’s rich heritage through these in-depth, visually supported lessons.

For Chinese Classical Gardens: Drawing on my research and specialization in Chinese classical gardens, I guide students through various case studies, with a particular focus on the gardens in Suzhou. Lessons are visually enriched with high-quality images, rare historical photographs, and video tours, providing a vivid and immersive experience. I highlight design elements, scenic spots, and historical context to bring these gardens to life for my students.

With dual master’s degrees in Landscape Architecture (Tongji University) and Arts and Cultural Management (University of Melbourne), and experience as a published academic researcher, I bring expertise and depth to each lesson. I have extensive experience teaching Chinese classical garden design and cultural studies, with a focus on making these complex subjects accessible and engaging for students.

Typical Lesson Length: Each lesson is 45 to 60 minutes.
Lesson Format: Available both online (Zoom) and in-person for students in Melbourne.
