About Angelika
More than 10 years of teaching at the university level and tutoring from high school to college level. I have taught undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals. I hold 4 degrees in math and geophysics. My work is either in academia, research organizations, or the industry, all in the natural sciences and using math, statistics, or computer programs. I have always developed great relationships with my students that go beyond the end of the job.

I am a PhD graduate with work in the physical sciences. I have held academic and scientist positions since my graduation in 2006. Prior to that, I was a teaching assistant in classes ranging from mathematics to statistics and geology. I have been working for a company for the last 2.5 years until this month but decided to take a small break to raise my newborn. As part of my job, I taught clients in the areas of hazards and seismology. I am currently doing research, applying for academic jobs, and would like to start tutoring again. I always loved mathematics and would like to make people love it too. I generally do not think just providing solutions to a problem is the right way to teach people. I like to make people find the answers by working out problems first and then help them to find their path to the solution. In math, the answer is not the most important, but how you get to it matters. Your methodology explained is also important. Once you find how to make mistakes and learn from them, math will be more satisfying than you thought. Even if math is not your subject, it will equip you with logic and how to use facts to come to a conclusion. It can work well in other subject areas as well. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I engaged Angelika to work with my daughter who had gone back to college after a years-long break and HAD to pass a calculus class required for her degree (on her two previous tries, she had dropped the class once and failed it once). Even more challenging was that, because this was during the summer session, the class was going to be at double-or triple-speed.
Angelika dove in. Angelika is passionate about math. She was adept at explaining - and enabling my daughter to understand - difficult concepts and had endless patience. Angelika (i) met with my daughter 2 to 3 x weekly, (ii) checked in between tutoring sessions to discuss assignments (and on more than one occasion, scheduled an additional session to review new material introduced by the professor at the last moment that would be covered on the test - surprise!), (iii) rearranged sessions to accommodate my daughter's work schedule, and (iv) generally encouraged my daughter throughout.
My daughter experienced great success - on her first test, she got an A+, and on the second, an A. She took the final a few days ago. While she hasn't yet received her score, we are confident she's fulfilled that core requirement - with flying colors.
What's more, my daughter has a new-found confidence that she can tackle a difficult subject and nail it.
I feel so grateful to Angelika for everything she did and enthusiastically recommend her!Angelika was able to help me in not only she subjects she specializes in but so much more. She helped me understand difficult concepts and use reason to get through tough parts of my course. I got so much out of her tutoring that I couldnt have done without her. All without spending too much.
