About Katie

Hi, I'm Kate! I'm friendly, enthusiastic and real. I'm also never afraid to make a fool of myself for the sake of a good explanation! I have almost a decade of experience teaching young people across Science, English and Media studies. You're probably not supposed to have favorites - but I love teaching Psychology. For me, it's the perfect mix of science methodology, stats, academic writing and interesting science facts! I've done a lot across my teaching career, including teaching literacy in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, teaching photography to adults and facilitating the Curtin university preparation course for teenagers. Recently, I've been interested in tertiary preparation - teaching academic writing, referencing and study habits, to help young people get the best out of their brains! In my "off time", I run a successful photography business where I hang out with loved-up couples on their wedding day, and capture moments they'll remember forever. When I'm not doing that, I'm hiking or going to the beach with my beautiful dog, Toast.

About the lesson

As an experienced and proficient teacher, I can adapt tuition to all levels, abilities and learning styles. Don't understand complicated concepts? I'm able to break them down into smaller chunks, using easy to understand and applicable examples. A typical lesson will last 60 mins, and will address 1-2 learning objectives. Each lesson runs to a particular structure (depending on how you learn best) and includes a variety of activities to best help you achieve your goals. To get the most out of your first session, I'd recommend coming with a plan for what you'd like to achieve, and a previous assessment or practice assessment that you've completed and had graded. For regular students, I like to spend the first lesson identifying your learning style and your strengths, and working with you to get an idea of what you'd like to achieve in our sessions. My lessons are very student-centered - my role is to walk with you, and guide you as you learn how to learn with a Science mind! You'll receive actionable tips, simple explanations and a great range of resources to help you grow and learn. I'm a qualified Secondary Science teacher, but I also have experience teaching Primary Science. On the other end of the spectrum, I've worked with school leavers and mature age students and helped them achieve their goals at a University level!
