About Heather
I am a certified teacher in the grades of Pre-K to 3rd grade. I taught Pre-K for 4 years and I taught 3rd grade for 4 years before the birth of my first child. I have been a stay at home mom now for 2 years and I am looking to get back into teaching. I really loved being in the classroom but my true passion was getting connect one on one with my students. I provided after school tutoring during my time teaching 3rd grade and I realized then that I love the connection of one on one and really getting to help students succeed. I love teaching students to read and that is definitely where my strength is. I also have a passion for science at the elementary level.
I love connecting with my students one on one and building a lasting relationship with them. I enjoy watching them gain knowledge of something they previously struggled in. That lightbulb moment is something I always treasure when it happens.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was little. I then went to school and received my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education in 2011. I taught at a private pre-K for 4 years and then moved to inner city public school where I taught 3rd grade for 4 years.
I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma State University.
While teaching in public school I received training in Arts Integration by The Kennedy Center of Performing Arts.

I really like to get to know a student and what they enjoy. I feel like building a relationship with a student is the first step to success. Once a relationship is starting to build I love to use what I have learned about the student to use as teaching tools. For example if a student really enjoys drawing and art I would incorporate that love of art into whatever subject they were working on.
I have worked with students ages 2 to 10. I have worked with students on IEPs
Have fun! Learning happens best when learning is fun!
The birth of my child is the single best event of my life to date.
