About Claire

Research professional with a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from the University of California, Davis. Advanced student throughout grade school, especially in mathematics, and considered a career in mathematics before turning my interest to healthcare and medicine. I currently work in pharmacology research for the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis, in the department of Molecular Biochemistry. I have been missing tutoring and teaching young students - something I was passionate about through college but stopped pursuing when I took my full time position.

I look forward to building trusting mentor-mentee relationships, helping you (or your young scholar) acheive goals, and helping better the knowledge of those around me!

I love the feeling of satisfaction when a concept just "clicks" and how exciting it can be to figure something out that was just really hard.

I graduated in June, 2019 from UC Davis with a degree in Clinical Nutrition. My best friend is currently going through a nursing program and regularly consults with me for homework help and tutoring style video calls for her science and math classes, which led me to realize I could be doing the same for others as well!

About the lesson

I prefer to get a list of subjects the student will need covered (based on syllabi) to determine if my knowledge would be a good fit. I then will meet via Facetime/Zoom for a 5-10 minute casual "interview" to determine if I am professionally compatible with that student and for them to ask any questions about my knowledge before deciding if I would like to help with tutoring. This process is obviously for a more long-term approach, for short-term/one-time I would simply want to see the material in question with time to work through it myself before meeting.

I have worked with students aged 5-8 on a regular basis, I have tutored a younger sibling that was aged 10-14 once he started to need assistance, and I have tutored others throughout college as well as tutoring current college students in my free time (close friends who are studying medicine/science).
