About Neal

As a recent medical school graduate, I have extensive background in the sciences but am very aware of the individual approach that tutoring entails. I work closely with each student to not only educate but inspire passion and levity within their academic pursuit. I will go above-and-beyond to ensure the student not only understands a topic but also is able to teach back the concept to others.

No doubt the biggest thrill from working with a student is when the light bulb goes off and a smile grows on their excited face after successfully tackling a challenging topic. I realize that if I cannot teach a topic succinctly and clearly, I need to develop a different method to help the student understand exactly what I am trying to convey. Every student learns in a different way, and the challenge in creating a positive, fun environment where they're developing the skill sets they need to succeed is truly incredible.

I graduated with a degree in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan before completing medical school at Nova Southeastern University, where I graduated in the top 20% of my class. I also have taken a multitude of formal national exams, ranging from the the SAT/ACTs to the DAT (Dental Aptitude Test). I have studied almost all aspects of science which has enabled me to look at subjects from different angles and methodologies. From my medical training I have sharpened my skills in listening to each individual carefully and respectfully and picking up on any sense of confusing while giving instructions or educating. I always try to remember to speak at the level of whom I am teaching, as a common complaint I had in my studies was explanations sometimes flying over my head when a much simpler answer was out there. This has guided my teaching mantra.

About the lesson

As each student has different goals and methods of learning, I like to establish a great rapport in order to ease any anxiety and ensure the energy is positive and uplifting. In addition to assessing baseline knowledge and learning goals, I can use different methods to see which is the most effective, not afraid to get creative if that is what it takes to elicit the most success. My number one rule for a student: there are ABSOLUTELY no bad questions to ask, so fire away!
