I ask what technique or subject the student most desires mastering .
After discussing their prior knowledge I usually demonstrate a means of breaking complex forms found in the Nature , a still life of landscape into simple shapes.
We discuss the importance of composition and how to place an object in space .
After a gestural drawing we select a complimentary color scheme and apply the underpainting, followed by lessons in color mixing, relative value and hard/ soft edges .
We work in layers breaking down every part of this first exploratory lesson to insure creativd expression as well as success .
