About Barbara

Making art with care and intention can improve the well being of the individual and the environment surrounding them. My approach to teaching is encouraging of the development of a lifestyle involving an art practice to make life more magical than it already is.

I have been maintaining my studio practice for nearly 18 years now. There have been ups and downs, good times and bad, but when life is its most challenging my practice has seen me through. Those challenges have benefited the quality of my art. I am an artist that works in fiber and materials, clay, video, photography, painting and drawing. My ability to switch from medium to medium depending on what is required of my whims makes me feel empowered and in control.

In graduate school I became a teacher's assistant. I am currently working in an elementary school. I just enjoy learning and sharing knowledge. Teaching is the best place to accomplish that.

I have an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This has helped me become an extremely versatile and thoughtful artist.

About the lesson

I like to take time to help the student and myself understand exactly what they are setting out to do. What medium is best suited for their next adventure. Once we have determined that, we will get busy learning skills and I will share my knowledge of art history as well as current artists that are working in similar ways.

I have worked with adult artists, teenagers, children. I believe I have something to offer anyone, advanced or a fresh beginner.
