About Zipporah

I teach my students on not just the basics in visual arts, but also the significance it serves in our current culture.

Helping others draw out their creative side they thought never existed as well as enlightening them of the world of fine arts.

Teaching started when I was only in junior high, asking to demonstrate to underclassmen on differences of using oil paint and acrylic paint for a still life assignment. I was then asked again to demonstrate again for the remainder of the semester and then full on tutoring underclassmen all through high school and early college attendance as well. It blossomed into private teaching before I realized it.

I have been educated in the arts for twenty-plus years and I am an alumni of New World School of the Arts for Visual Arts.

About the lesson

A typical process for working with a new student includes introducing them to mediums used by visual artists—both beginners and professionals—as well as a variety of surfaces they'll use it on by practicing on a color chart or color wheel after a demonstration from me on how the medium can be applied. Students will also learn various art styles and historical art movements that will lead into the next lesson such as gaining observational skills, noting artistic terms in art criticism, and a sense of personal technique.

I have worked with junior high school students and senior high school students.

The advice I would give to a student looking for someone to teach them art would be to seek out someone who teaches them the rules and the historical background on the materials they'll learn. Inevitably, you'll hear and read on artists that broke barriers and created a whole new creative culture for future artists, but it is important to know what rules were in place before they did some real experimenting. I encourage my students to draw inspiration from styles and movements presented to them in each lesson and to create a whole artistic portfolio in the end that represents them, and not just, "I painted a fruit bowl."

I recall in an aftercare program where I purchased a sketchbook and a deluxe set of colored pencils for an elementary student in special needs whose overfilled folder of drawings was thrown away by an adult that oversaw the special needs children. The look on her face when I presented her with artist mediums was worth it—you'd think she'd just won a trip to Disneyland.

Details

The first lesson is free and the lessons afterwards will be $45.00/per class (per person) if the student chooses a month/year long plan. However, it will be $55.00 if the student only plans for only one class. Students have the option to pay for a month's worth of classes ahead of time at their convenience. Quality artist supplies—sufficient for both professionals and student artists alike—will be provided by the instructor.
