About Katie

The Arts Creative was built out of the need for a space to practice our creative expression. At every level of artistic experience, learning how to express ourselves and sharing our gifts is essential to living full lives.

Katie is passionate about the arts, and truly believes in their power to transform our lives for the better. Sharing art, creating art, and playing with art is all part of building a rich community. At The Arts Creative, Katie's infectious energy will have you feeling right at home and ready to push yourself into the confidence to fully express yourself through Art!

People have called me bossy for most of my life, and I will admit that I like to take charge of a situation that lacks leadership. My mom ran a daycare from home, and being one of nine children it was easy to step up and take charge. School was a great time for me socially, and when I found myself paying for what I wanted to learn I realized my passion for problem solving and making things with my hands could be answered in any art form I could reach. I started my college education as an Engineer, and finished as an Art Educator. Since then I have taught after school for students and adults, I have taught high school and middle school students virtually online, I have been in private schools, public schools, and charter schools in grades K-12. I love it all. One thing in common with every school was that art was this special force that allowed me to reach students through the connections we made in art class.

My license for teaching is for K-12 MN state standards. My license is current. I also have a passion for making just about anything. My husband is a full time professional multi media producer with video and photography who supports my never ending passions for learning new arts including the culinary arts in which he might be my biggest fan.

About the lesson

Initial communication is great to get to know the students' needs. I would estimate 2-3 emails between my guest and myself would be enough to know what we can do to get together and start creating!

From the wealthiest private school students who can easily mask their issues, from adults with special needs, I have reached students from the ages of Pre-K to adult, excluding only the precious college year students. Maybe this avenue can align me with these students. The charter schools I have taught at also let me know students that are first generation immigrants, as well as students who's communities struggle. My students online were also a dynamic population, as their walks of life were rarely similar to their peers.

Ask a lot of questions.

Live music is my favorite type of event that I can think of. Being around people experiencing that energy together is my version of happiness.

What do I hope to get from the lessons? How many lessons do i think I would need to get what I need? Would I consider working with more than one student rather than a private lesson?

Details

Because the inital time to have a new student requires a bit of work upfront, before the actual class, and I like to know that someone is committed to the time we spend, I like to offer a two and a half hour class for $100. This allows us time to get to know each other as well as give you the tour of my space. If we are on location, this will also cover any entry fee to a park or drive time on my end.
