About Frank
With over 13 years of experience serving as a private tutor, a decade of experience teaching at some of the top prep schools in the country, and a masters degree from an Ivy League school, I am able to combine my unique work experience and education to assist my students. I am extremely passionate about education and the opportunities it can provide. Whether coaching, teaching, or with friends, I am very much a "relationship" person, and believe strongly that maintaining a positive relationship with my students has been a contributing factor in regards to my success in the classroom and as a tutor. In addition to my masters degree I have also completed a certifificate program in positive psychology at the University of Pennsylvania which impacts how I work with children. The combination of my experience, education, personality, passion, and individualized approach help me meet the needs of all types of students.
I find tutoring and teaching to be incredibly rewarding for a number of reasons. First and foremost is the ability to watch a student, who mistakenly believed they were not capable of academic greatness, develop over time into what they were always capable of. Additionally, the meaningful and positive relationships developed with former students has always been a an enjoyable aspect of my work.

My initial meeting with a new student is always focused on the following;
1. Having the opportunity to meet and get to know the student, including their interests and passions outside of the classroom.
2. Giving the student the opportunity to ask me questions about my background, experience, philosophy, etc. as a way of developing rapport.
3. Discussing with the student their perceived acaemic strengths and weaknesses, areas they would most like to grow, how they learn best, etc. Helping me create an individual profile of each student I work with.
4. Finally, I go over expectations for moving forward and cover, in detail, our plan for success.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Mr. Cooney has become exactly what my kid needed. He adapted very quickly to the learning styles needed in order for my kid to actually process it, take it in and remember it. He also knows how to make it fun at the same time which definitely makes a huge difference! My kid has made quite the turn around academically & is finally reaching full potential!
“Mr. Cooney single-handedly changed my academic career as a writer. Throughout high school I was always someone who would dread English classes and never had much success in them. I worked with multiple other tutors but never saw much progress. However, since I started working with Mr. Cooney I not only saw great improvements in my English courses, but I also actually started taking real interest in them and even at times found myself looking forward to class and various assignments.”
To start off Frank is an amazing dude. His passion for life and to be the best version of himself everyday inspired me as a student to do the same. The energy he brought during our sessions rubbed off on me and inspired to always do my best. I always liked how honest he was with me when I needed to work on soemthing. I think that is really important for tutoring because there is no use in working on something you don’t need help with. You need the 100% truth on what is needed and Frank have that. His positive reinforcement always was huge for me. He reminded me that I know how to do it, I just needed to put the puzzle pieces together. Overall I would definitely suggest using frank as a tutor.
Frank made sure to personalize everything he did for my son. He took time to understand my son’s shortcomings and which learning style best suited him, and then used that information to make learning FUN for my son.
