About Samoane
I offer flexible options, such as writing review, to help you manage your busy schedule. Every session is personalized to your needs because I recognize that every student is different. I am here to help you embrace your strengths and use them in your writing!
I love seeing students grow throughout the tutoring journey; it's really rewarding to see a student become more confident and gain agency over their writing.
I began as a peer tutor at my university's writing center, which lead to me applying for a Graduate Teaching Assistant role during my master's program. Upon graduation, I worked for two additional semesters, teaching English Composition I and II.
I am a certified Master Tutor with the College Reading and Learning Association, and I have tutored students of all ages for over three years. Aditionally, I taught English Composition I and II for two years at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. There, I obtained a BA in English, Literary Studies and a MA in English, Science and Medical Writing.

We will discuss your needs and goals prior to the session. As a tutor, I always want to cover and prioritize what you identify as your main focus or concern. If you intend to book multiple sessions, we may complete a more detailed intake form to identify due dates, short and long term goals, and to learn more about you!
I also offer writing review, in which I will provide detailed comments and suggestions on your essay if you are unable to come to session. Prior to review, we will still discuss your goals, questions, and concerns about the assignment.
College students, upper-level high school students, and middle schoolers
I would encourage students to open a dialogue with their tutor to ensure that they are on the same page before they begin. Make sure your tutor is someone you're comfortable talking with and do not be afraid to let them know what works best for you and how you learn. We want to know!
I have been working with one of my students for two semester now, and I can see her become more and more confident with her writing. She is able to put complex paragraphs together, and she can explain her ideas eloquently. I told her I was proud of her, and she teared up! It felt amazing to know that I had made an impact on her academic journey.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask your teacher where you can improve the most in your academic performance, what resources are available to help you, and if they have any reading recommendations to supplement the course material. If there is something outside of class that may be affecting the way you show up, let them know, so they can accommodate you to the best of their abilites. With that said, it's okay to only share what you're comfortable with. Other professionals at your school may be able to advocate for you as well.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Samoane was very understanding with me! I struggle with writing more than most people. She tutored me in my essay writing in a few classes, and it helped me a lot. She also helped me learn the differences between MLA and APA format types, and how to lay them out properly. She always broke down things in a way I could understand, and was very patient with my endless questions! I was never scared to ask a “stupid” question, if that makes sense. I learned a lot from her.
