About Delaney

I'm currently a student at Wichita State University, and I'm eager to share my love of English and literature! I'm a sophomore majoring in English Literature and I'm in pursuit of a Master's in English. Ever since I learned to read, I've had an immense passion for reading, writing, and communication. I've always excelled in English and I am eager to share this passion with others. I am an Emory Lindquist Honors Scholar with a 3.8 GPA and I'm proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office. Not only is English literacy is crucial to effective communication and learning, it is an amazing way to learn and express yourself!

I enjoy English because it is something I get to utilize every single day and it allows me to be creative and expressive! Having a proficiency in English literacy has allowed me to learn so much more, both in class and about the world around me. Literature has so much to offer, writing is an amazing creative outlet, and communication is useful in day-to-day life.

I started tutoring in mathemetics my freshman year in college, but quickly realized that English was what I wanted to teach instead. I changed my major almost immediately and I'm pursing a Master's in order to teach at the university/professor level in the future!

I am currently on track to get my Bachelor's in English and Literature. I volunteered for Mikrokosmos literary journal as an editor and reviewer of creative writing pieces at Wichita State University. Most of all, I have a passion for language!

About the lesson

I like to consult the student (and parent, if applicable) about what points we'd like to focus on and outline our clear end-goals. I'd also like to discuss what environment is best for the student (their home, a public space, etc.) and arrange for that. After that, I'd like to schedule reoccuring times to meet (or just one, if requested) and get started!

I have worked with high-school students, but I am also open to working with middle-school students or undergraduates.

There is a common misconception that, because English is your first language, it must be simple, right? This is completely false and numerous students struggle or find confusion in English all the time! It isn't easy, but it is something we all need to use in everyday life. By learning more and becoming comfortable with the subject, you'll find how much English truly has to offer. By having a helping hand to guide you through the difficult parts, you'll open up limitless opportunities.

I recently completed a creative writing class with Professor Dawe at Wichita State University and it was one of my favorite classes thus far! She provided a great example of a teacher who is able to educate their students on the technical stuff (grammar, syntax, diction, etc.) but while also making class creative and seriously enjoyable!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Just to think about what subjects you struggle with specifically. Do you struggle with reading comprehension? Do you have trouble writing papers? Are you having trouble on grammar tests? After you find where you need some help, gather some more specifics. What kind of works are you reading? What papers are you assigned? Finally, think of an end-goal and keep it in mind. Are you learning in order to retake a course? Do you want to get more comfortable with English? Do you have a big, important paper looming over the horizon? Whatever the case may be, I can help.

I typically start at 13$/hour, but I do increase the hourly wage if the driving distance to the student is >15 miles. This excludes online/remote tutoring, which does not require any driving costs.
