About Cole

I am passionate about linguistics and language. I push students to think outside the box and search for more unique language that can convey their personality and mastery of the English language. Rather than teaching a cut-and-dry, 5-paragraph essay style, I challenge students to formulate ideas, arguments, or rhetoric in a way that makes them stand out. A way that breaks down the strict, rudimentary barriers taught throughout the system. A way that lets them actually write. I ask my students to write for themselves, not for an outdated rubric.

I am an avid writer and an enthusiastic guide. I have a complete, 120-hour TEFL certificate and experience teaching children ages 8-12 in Nepal. From the most basic grammar and pronunciation to lengthy, college-level writing, I am passionate about sharing the ins-and-outs of language.

I enjoy helping students, whether native speakers or those learning a second language, fully grasp the English language. From the basic building blocks of grammar, to the complexities of creative writing and informed arguments. I enjoy opening up the world to students, through comprehension of content and through the expression of their own ideas.

I completed my TEFL in Stuttgart, Germany in 2017. From there, I have worked mostly with friends and their children, offering advice and guidance. At the start of this year, I made it a priority to share my passion of writing and English with those who have a less fond view of it.

I have completed a 120-hour TEFL course. I have experience teaching basic grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension to students in Nepal ages 8-12.

About the lesson

To start, identifying what their desires and goals are. From there, we will get to know one another and share our strengths and weaknesses with writing and comprehension. Depending on the needs of the student, I will develop a plan with an end goal just beyond the original goal.

Mostly children, typically focusing on grammar and pronunciation. But I am hoping to expand my core and teach young adults how to be fluent and talented writers. Whether for a creative writing class, an analytical course, or any kind of research paper.

I would advise any student looking to rise above their peers to seek something different. I would encourage them to think outside of what they've been taught and dare to actually write. When we draw outside the lines, we can create a new definition of beauty.

Recently, I celebrated my one year anniversary with my beloved, Kimberley. We set off an an escapade deep into the remote backcountry of northern Arizona. After what seemed like a never-ending dirt road riding the edge of some of the steepest canyons in the area, we descended into a river basin, without another soul around. The feeling was eerie at first, but quickly we were at home among the howling coyotes and the trickling river. We packed a bag, strapped our headlamps to our foreheads and set off towards Al Capone's old hideout. A hot spring hidden in the desert. We hiked and howled until we found a lone palm tree, rising well above the brush. We crossed the icy river and scurried into the springs, our legs eager to feel the warmth of mother earth. There we were. Just us. Two people out of nearly 8 billion, alone under the stars, surrounded by messages of love and compassion and acceptance. Pure bliss.
