About KRISTEN
My service stands out because my teaching style is a hands-on learning approach. I provided lessons that are not only engaging but are specific to the student's learning needs and goals. I also provide support to the entire family because communication is a necessity for student success.
The one thing I enjoy the most about my work, are the relationships I form with each student and their family. I love seeing the joy on their face when a student is completely engaged in learning and having fun. I love seeing a sense of confidence and pride grow within, my students. Lastly, I love the fact that my job, doesn't feel like a job.
I have always had a love for learning, and when I was younger I struggled with reading. Then during my 8th-grade year, I had a teacher, Mrs. Hewit, who took notice of me and my struggles, she would sit with me at lunch every day and we would talk about my interest. Once she knew what piqued my interest, we would sit and read books based on those topics. By the end of the year, I had reached grade level in Reading. Mrs. Hewit made reading an adventure for me every time we opened a book. I will always be grateful for that time with her, she taught me it's ok to have struggles, as long as you never give up on yourself and keep fighting. I started teaching because I wanted to share my love of learning and reading with others, I wanted to provide the same joy Mrs. Hewit gave to me and I wanted to show those who are struggling, that it's ok to struggle, as long as you keep fighting and don't give up on yourself or your dreams.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, with an endorsement in Middle Grades Language Arts.

When working with a new student, I like to get to know them first, so I set up a free session with the student, where they can ask any question they might have and visa versa. During this session, I evaluate what type of learner the student is, their strengths, and where they are struggling. Since every lesson is unique to them, I like to know what they're passionate about, their learning goals, where they see themselves in the future. I like to hear from the student how they feel when learning. Are they anxious, scarred etc.. Lastly, I always make sure each student feels safe and comfortable within their learning environment and with me before moving forward with a client.
Over the years as a teacher and tutor, I have worked with students of all ages and learning types. Some students had learning disabilities, some were not being challenged enough, but overall I have enjoyed working with each one of my students to help them become the person they want to be.
