About Jaclynn

Hello all!

I am a current high school senior with a passion for english and writing! I've taken as many AP and advanced courses in the field of language and literature as possible, and would love to share my knowledge with you!

Interestingly enough, I haven't always loved english. Growing up, I actually despised it! I would read books, sure, but I simply did not see the point in analyzing texts or writing essays.

Nevertheless, I persevered, and eventually began to see the value in understanding and composing literary works with the help of a few great teachers. I would be honored to help you grow in the same manner.

A few of my qualifications include: Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Regional Essay Winner 2020, AP English III Student of the Year, & PAP English II Student of the Year

I actually began tutoring others when I was in fifth grade! At the time, my local library sponsored peer-peer tutoring every week, so I would volunteer there. As I grew older, my love for teaching grew as well, and I began teaching my clasmates concepts when they needed help.

Although I have no formal training, I am confident in my abilities to teach concepts ranging from elementary to AP English III level. In my academic career, my lowest AP English grade at any point was a 99, and I feel thi accurately represented my work. In addition to my schooling, I have also tutored friends and family members.

When I begin working with a new student, I typically discuss the following first:

- the concepts in which they are struggling to understand

- the methods they have used to evaluate problems/ complete work in the past

- their goals/ expected outcome from our lesson

Depending on whether the student needs help on a specific assignment or a more complex/detailed lesson on a certain subject, I will develop a plan for our session. If the sessions are recurring, I will develop a specific lesson plan and individualied milestones for the student.

I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and ages (5-17 specifically). Many of my students vary in aptitude and attitude towards english, as well.

I would tell the student to keep an open mind to teaching methods. More and more, schools are beginning to place students in boxes, labeling them as good at "this" or bad at "that." Such logic is inherently flawed, as people are not meant to be confined to boxes and stereotypes.

I recently became the Historian of my school's National Honor Society. Becoming inducted was incredibly exciting, as the position will allow me to grow in both my leadership and writing abilities.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

Students should think about where they are in respect to where they want to be (skills-wise) so that both the teacher and student can efficiently work to help said student.

My lessons start at $20 for an hour session, as I put a great amount of effort into each session regarding the planning and instructing.

In special cases (or if the student is seeking long-term lessons), I may adjust the price.
