About Lucy
Learning to read and write can be challenging, but it can also be fun! I'm here to help improve your skills in a way that isn't traditional and that is meaningful to you! Let's read! Let's write! Let's go!
I have been in education for ten years and an English teacher for nine of them! I LOVE the classics, but I also love finding ways to connect students to literature that is interesting to them! I also love teaching writing. Writing is a skill that takes lots and lots of practice. I'm able help students develop their writing in a way that empowers them and feel successful.
Like many teachers, I had incredible teachers growing up who inspired me to become a teacher. I love working with kids and watching them grow. My absolute favorite thing in the world is graduation ceremonies! I truly believe that your education is the one thing nobody can ever take from you!
I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Education, a Master's Degree in Literacy Studies, and a second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Why have one Master's Degree when you can pay for two! I've spoken at a number of educational conferences, including the National Council for Teacher of English Conference.

The first thing I do when I meet a new student start to build a relationship with them. What are the student's interests, passions, goals? From there, we set goals together of what they'd like to accomplish during our time together. Next, I build our sessions to meet the needs of each individual student!
I have worked with all types of students! I have worked with Honors students, traditional students, and students who have dropped out and then returned to school. I've worked with students who hate English and students who read 12 books a week!
Find someone you connect with. Reading is very personal. Writing is very personal. Find a tutor who you trust to support you in your journey. It also doesn't hurt if they make you laugh.
During quarentine/lockdown my husband and I got a puppy named Rocket! I spent a lot of the lockdown training him and snuggling him. Watching him learn and grow has been so much fun and he may make some quick appearances during tutoring sessions to say hi!
