About Afomia

My past experience with children aged 2 to 11 has helped me in building adaptive skills to cater to each child's need to provide the best possible service when tutoring.

I love children and I feel that creating safe spaces, especially in learning environments is crucial as personally when growing up, at times I didn't always feel welcome in school settings. So as a tutor, I strive towards helping students in various subject areas and ensure that I foster safe learning so that the children I tutor feel encouraged to share whatever concerns they have. I believe this is one of the best ways to tutor anyone of any age group and have found the most success with this method. Along with this, I love the results that come from consistent effort put into any tutoring and teaching I have done in the past as growth is essential and another positive aspect that further pushes students to improve in their studies.

I got into teaching at my church. After I graduated from my Sunday school, I decided I wanted to give back to my community in the way I saw my own previous teachers do so, and as a result, I began to teach as well. This past year I also got my teaching certification from the greater organization for my faith that is responsible for church education within my church on the east coast. I also found myself suited to teach from a young age as I am the oldest of five children, so I’ve always been one to help my younger siblings regarding many subjects both school related and otherwise.

I taught and worked as a Child Care Aide for a year at Woodlin Child Development Center with children ages 2-11, but primarily with children ages 2-4. I also currently teach a class of children 11-13 as a Sunday school teacher at my church.

About the lesson

I usually prefer to meet my students (or parents) to have a conversation about comments and concerns before beginning tutoring so I can cater to their needs and adjust. This helps me to give provide the best services I can when tutoring.

I have worked with toddlers and students aged from kindergarten to eighth grade.

Always search for a teacher that not only can address your needs as a student but listens to you as a friend in order to create a healthy and stable relationship for growth and progress in whatever subject matter it may be!

I recently participated in a course to receive my teaching certification as a Sunday school teacher and I can gladly say I thoroughly enjoyed the course, the instructors and the environment created throughout the entirety of the course.
