About Natalie
I have always loved learning and teaching others about what I know. I have received a BA in Comparative Literature, which is where my writing and editing skills come from. I also grew up in Germany, where I became fluent in German. I have over the years taught many peers, young children, and young adults this language. I am currently a German News Reporter/Translator- a position which has allowed me to combine my skills in both English and German, and has proven to me how much I truly enjoy working in an environment where I can challenge myself constantly.
I am very passionate about forming a good relationship with my students, as I believe that without this one does not have a chance at properly learning anything. I thrive on communicating information to others who will find it useful, and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when my students are benefitting from this experience. I am innovative, and adapt to my students' needs. I pronunciate well in both English and German, avoiding any miscommunication, and I have an approachable attitude to make learning easy and fun!
I began teaching during my undergraduate career: one of my professors was planning to move to Germany in the future, and wanted his 4 year old son to begin learning the language. This opportunity really opened up my eyes to how much I enjoy getting people enthusiastic not only abou learning a new language, but about learning something new at all. Learning something, and challenging oneself to step outside of their comfort zone and feel vulnerable, is often described as threatening or scary- but with me, I show you how to turn this fear of not having perfected a certain skill into overcoming the fear and feeling proud of your accomplishments.
I received my BA in Comparative Literature- the study of literature across linguistic, national, and cultural boundaries. From this education I have gained many skills not only in writing and editing, but also in how to properly analyze texts and learn by reading between the lines and from a text's historical context. I am also currently a German News Reporter/ Translator for a major international media company. I have the qualifications to teach/tutor in reading and writing in both English and German.

I begin by getting to know their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning anything new: do they prefer writing activities, are they more of a visual learner, do they prefer having direct edits or time to review, etc. By doing this we establish our boundaries and it allows me the chance to adapt my teaching methods to their preferences and abilities. From here, we can much better communicate and make the learning process more enjoyable.
I have worked with students ranging from toddlers, to teenagers to young adults. From these experiences, I have learned to adapt to my students' needs from the very beginning as we all have our strengths and weaknesses, and preferences to how we learn.
If you are looking for someone who can teach you in writing and editing in English or German, make sure that they have a degree in the field, and also find out if they read a lot. Over the years I have come to realize that most of my subconscious learning has come directly from what I read- from newspapers to journals to academic papers to reports, I love reading, and have noticed just how much I gain from simply reading.
I have recently started my own blog! I had no prior experience building a website, and had to engage with many outlets to learn from scratch. This truly gave me the chance to challenge myself with something new, and I am proud to say that it is slowly coming to be just how I want it!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe a student should first determine their goals: are they looking for short-term or long-term goals in regards to the subjects they need help in, do they want to have any outside motivation or is the one-on-one enough for them, etc. I also think it is important that students reflect on how much work they have already put into learning whatever it is, and really think about if they have given it a fair chance.
