About Asher

I work with students with a range of goals and backgrounds. For all students, it is my aim to provide you with the knowledge, resources, and feedback to make progress in your musical endeavors, whatever they may be! All lessons are taught online via Zoom. I am available to all my students via email/phone between sessions for any questions to ensure steady progress.

Please note I will not be able to reply via this website call or message requests as the fees are quite prohibitive for my small business (these lower costs are reflected in my lower-than-market lesson fees :) ). /Asher is a multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and composer who specializes in plucked string instruments including guitar, bass guitar, double bass, banjo, and ukulele. He aims to blend popular, folk, and historical styles as they relate to these instruments. /

As a kid playing guitar and other instruments, sometimes friends and classmates would ask me to teach or show them how to play someting. I realized it was a rewarding experience and began teaching my first paid lessons in high school.

I have been studying guitar since age 9. I attended the audition-based Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts program before earning a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance at the University o Kentucky. I also attended the FestivalMusicAlp program in Tignes, France during the summer in my college years.

About the lesson

The first step is to assess the students goals and interests. Some beginner students have certain type of musc or song that they want to work towards. Other students may not know quite yet. In both cases we begin building skills toward that goal or in general ways that will be useful for any type of music.

If the student has some experience I will ask a few questions to learn where they are coming from, and of course ask about their goals and interests as well.

I have worked with a wide range of students from preschool ages to adults, from diferent backgrounds, with different learning styles and abilities. I have worked with students on the spectrum as well. I enjoy working with all my students and always work to adapt my teaching methods for each student.
