About Faye
I am an experienced English and Writing teacher who earned a B.S. in English and American Literature from Brandeis University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Solstice Program at Pine Manor College. As a creative writer, I have published five books: a personal essay collection, three children's books, and a collection of microfiction due in December 2023. I taught expository writing, freshman writing, creative writing, and literature courses for five years at the undergraduate level. You will find me to be a caring and attentive instructor who enjoys seeing students excel. I taught one-on-one senior capstone projects in creative writing at Lasell University, and one of my students made a special request to work with me two semesters in a row.

I started teaching once I earned my MFA. A friend recommended me for a college teaching position, and I got the position.
I have an undergraduate degree in English and two Master's Degrees -- one in Environmental Science/Communications (with a focus on journalism) and the other in Creative Writing. I have worked as a journalist, a public relations/marketing writer, and a writing instructor. As a creative writer, I have also published five books. I know writing, and I enjoy helping students gain improved writing skills.

We introduce ourselves and talk about the student's goals. What motivated the student to sign up for tutoring? What are the student's strengths and weaknesses as a writer? What does the student love or hate about writing? We determine where the student is with writing, and where the student wants to go. Then we begin to form a plan to help the student get there.
I have worked with undergraduate college students, freshmen through seniors, and with adult learners. I taught online extra-curricular writing classes for students in grades 4-12 during the pandemic.
Find a teacher you feel comfortable working with, someone who will take their time to help you find ways enjoy writing or at least feel more confident in your abilities.
I recently enjoyed launching my series of children's books. I donate a portion of the proceeds from my children's books to non-profit animal rescue organizations.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do I enjoy about writing?
What type of writing do I have trouble with, and why?
How could a tutor help me improve my writing?
Am I prepared to learn to write better and to do my own work and not to expect a tutor to do the work for me?

Dr. DesPres is an incredible instructor! She is patient, sincere, and shows genuine concern for her students. Not only was she there for me academically, but she also supported me emotionally. I feel incredibly blessed having worked with Dr. DesPres and I strongly recommend her!
Before Faye I thought I was, you know, half way decent at writing - maybe somewhere close to good. With her I learned more than I had in my three previous years of college. I would be no where without her, and every once and awhile I still hear her voice in my head telling me it’s just a first draft and get it out. She is a constant source of inspiration. My writing would be nothing without her.
