About Maria

Over 25 years of experience, the tutors at Immerse in English will build a relationship with the students while teaching them how to speak, listen, read and write in English. It is our passion and it's fun!

We help the students make connections and build their knowledge so English learning makes sense. We are looking forward to support English language learners.

I began teaching in a 4th grade classroom but later I met an ESL teacher. I didn't even know what ESL was at the time. It was excited because as an English language learner myself, I had no idea that we had a service like that for students. It became my passion and I have dedicated my life to this practice.

About the lesson

We begin with a conversation. We want to understand the needs of the student and create a plan specifically for each student. Then we will create a plan and if the student agrees, we will meet regularly and practice English.

I have worked with K-12, adults and college level.
Once I became an ESL specialist, I taught in a school district and then in the evenings to support adults who wanted to learn basic English. Now, I work with college freshman and sophomores mostly who need to work on specific skills.

Everything will be alright. It seems overwhelming and nobody likes to feel confused but step by step, we will get there.

I had two students come back to me recently to tell me that they felt so prepared for their higher level writing classes because of my classes. I do hear that a lot from students but these two actually made an appointment just to tell me that. it was validating for sure.
