About Shareen

My current job as a consultant requires strong public speaking, writing, and presentation skills.

This position allows me to tutor students in areas like professional and academic writing. I have written in several styles-from MLA, to APA, to executive memos presented to the Governor's office. I want to share the skills I have developed to those wishing to strengthen their own styles and find their voice.

My passion for writing has been evident as early as high school, where I served as my school newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief. I also won several oratory awards in Speech and Debate. Since then, I have crafted office bulletins, instruction manuals, decision memos, and a dissertation for different jobs and classes. I think of writing like a game: every single move, or word, should be intentional. The structure of the paragraph must be thoughtful. And each person's unique style should be uncovered.

I have held leadership & tutoring roles as young as 16. I am now 25, and have only spent time iterating my own skills with advice from my mentors.

I have served as a communications coordinator for three different organizations that required me to write memos and newsletters for large audiences. I have also warned my Master's and am working towards a doctorate which strengthen my academic writing skills.

About the lesson

My process includes 1) an introductory lesson where I examine former writing samples and learn about their favorite subjects, 2) crafting lesson plans specific to the student's weaknesses, and 3) refining their own voice with tips and tricks I use during my own process.

I have worked with middle-school students looking to prepare for high school, and high school students looking to prepare for standardized tests and college. I have also proofread college-level essays for others.

I recommend that the student uses their own voice with some general tips & tricks to refine their writing style.

I recently prepared a five-page memo for the Governor regarding health equity initiatives. Each recommendation included a purpose, implementation needs, and success metrics to receive buy-in from his office.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about if they need help with a specific subject, or need ideas for their general writing. Sometimes, you have to forego your personal style for academic writing. But for English / creative writing, you should use your own style.
