About Annika
I have just completed my first year at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. I am a Mathematics major with an intended Statistics concentration and Spanish minor. In high school, I took Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC (the equivalents of Calculus I and II in most colleges). I passed both AP Calculus exams with scores of 5 out of 5 and have very strong foundational skills such as algebra and trigonometry.
I have completed a year-long elementary Spanish course and have very strong comprehension skills. I also took French for seven years in middle and high school and passed the AP exam.
I love doing math! Since middle school, it has always been my favorite subject. Even now in college I often find myself doing my math homework far ahead of the due date because I enjoy it so much. I even tend to get bored when I have no math work to do! I especially enjoy algebra and calculus, especially word problems, because I find them easy to view as small puzzles.
High school: Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus
Advanced Placement (AP): Calculus AB, Calculus BC (the equivalents of Calculus I and II in most colleges)
College: Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra
I am prepared to tutor anyone in basic aritmetic, algebra, trigonometry, and Calculus I material (derivatives, limits, basic seperable differential equations)

If you understand concepts better when you know why they work instead of just being told "this is how it is," look for a teacher who is willing to go in-depth about why certain things work the way that they do. I myself have a hard time grasping new concepts when I am not told why they behave the way they do and what they are used for, so this is especially important to me.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself if you have good foundational skills. For most classes in middle school and beyond, you will need a strong basis in arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and in algebra. If you're still learning these things, think about how your tutor can best support your studies so you can carry these skills with you. If you're past these topics, think about how much review you will need going forward and ask your tutor to support this review.
