About Tisha

I have taught preschool - 8th grade and high school biology. I have worked in rural communites, suburbs and urban areas. The majority of my teaching has been in city schools with math and science my primary subjects. Tutoring allows me to revisit my love of reading and writing on top of the math and science that I do daily.

With 18 years of experience, I have a variety of interests and love learning. For me, being able to reach students outside of the normal classroom instruction is fun and rewarding. I have worked for two tutoring companies and mentored students through a local organization.

With my own children grown, I have more time and flexibility, so I am tutoring independently.

My favorite part of tutoring is how the student progess is quickly evident. Being able to focus the instruction on one student's needs and skills allows me to meet students where they are and partner with them to reach their goals.

I was a psychology major in college. I was tutoring students on the side and it was something I enjoyed. I took a few education couses and ended up changing my major.

B.S. in Education from IUPUI. 18 years of teaching experience. Tutoring, mentoring, training teachers within my district and for the Department of Education, currriculum development for my district as lead teacher, off-site instructor for STEM and science-related curriculum for Marion University.

About the lesson

Gather information on student strengths and weaknesses. Find out from student/parent what goals they have for the tutoring seession. Develop a plan and timeline to help meet those goals.

I do spend a little time each session with an activity to help the student feel comfortable and help me know them better.

Preschool - 8th: all subjects

High School: biology

English language learners and special education: K-8th grade

Find someone who has a passion for learning, not just for teaching. A good teacher teaches students to be a learner.

Family game nights are one of my favorite events. They aren't a huge, one-time, unforgettable thing... They are time and laughs with my favorite people.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about specifically what they want to learn or need help to understand. Not "I need help with math". More like, "I do not understand fractions." or "I can't figure out what the main idea of a text is."

The more specific a student can be about what they need, the better able a teacher will be to help.

Cancelations (Less that 12 hours notice) or no-show are still charged.

Late arrivals will have time deducted from session.
