About David

I'm a college graduate from Lawrence Technological University with a bachelors degree in Computer Science and a minor in mathematics.

I've been doing tutoring for people I know personally for the last several years, with significant improvement for my students.

Getting people to the "I got it!" moment is always really rewarding. They always light up and get really excited.

Outside of that, it's just the general helping people become a more productive member of society.

My first student was my cousin's son who was having a significant amount of trouble getting a handle on the relationship between multiplication and addition. He's gotten significantly better, and his teachers have remarked on it to him.

I have a bachelors in Computer Science- a field that can accurately be described as applied mathematics in digital space.

I have a minor in Mathematics- the subject I'm best at tutoring.

About the lesson

step 1: Getting a handle on the material this student needs me to cover.

step 2: look at a few examples of past work done to more accurately pinpoint where the student is having trouble.

step 3: develop a problem for the student starting from the solution and working backward.

step 4: work through the problem with the student.

step 5: repeat steps 3 and 4 until the student feels confident

step 6: give the student a problem to work on alone while I remain accessible if necessary.

I've worked with Elementary and Middle schoolers officially, and unofficially I've worked with a few college and high school students. The unofficial students were friends and family.

Look for a teacher that can explain a process multiple ways, and understands the processes themselves.

A teacher that really understands the processes can pinpoint where you might be misunderstanding a function, and if they can explain it in another way, it gives another avenue to understanding the material for yourself.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student needs to think about whether they're trying to get a teacher to solve their problem for them, and why. If it's because they don't understand the material, it's an opportunity for both sides to solve the misunderstanding.

A student should also think about how immediate a response is needed, and choose the method of contact appropriately. If it's during a tutoring session, simply getting the teacher's attention should be fine. If it's outside of a session- email, phone, and text messaging should all be options.
