About Reilley
I am currently a graduate student, working to earn my Master’s degree in education along with a teaching certification in secondary math. Last year, I worked full-time as an apprentice teacher in a high school math classroom, and I had the unique opportunity of completing the last three and a half months teaching remotely. Through that time, I learned strategies that work to engage ninth and tenth graders online more effectively, including establishing consistent routines, using online learning platforms, and incorporating activities to build and maintain relationships with students. From mid-March until the end of June, my co-teaching team and I transformed our curriculum to be 100% remote learning for our students. We held daily lessons on Google Hangouts, and I facilitated open office hours with students via video-chat. I also have experience using Zoom, FaceTime, and Skype when working with past tutoring students. My teaching experience last year also taught me more about planning more individualized and scaffolded instruction to students who need it most. I learned how critical it is to explicitly teach test-taking skills, especially in math, and our teaching team made an effort to provide binders and/or folders to students to facilitate their organizational needs. My undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering, and I worked as a design engineer in the automotive industry for several years following college. I am incredibly passionate about math and science, along with other aspects typically associated with STEM such as computer programming and project-based research.
I truly know how difficult coursework can be, especially while learning remotely, and I would love to be a resource for students to thrive in whatever this school year looks like.
