About Cecilia

I have been a private tutor for students in various subjects, including but not limited to Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Middle School English, AP Calculus, Anatomy, and SAT Test Prep, since 2019. Students I have tutored in the past have demonstrated improvement after the use of my services.

I have a wide variety of subject knowledge, including mathematics (from elementary math to AP level calculus and statistics), English language and composition, science (elementary through high school life, earth, and general science, as well as AP Biology and anatomy), social studies and American/European history, and test preparation. I have taken 6 AP courses, and passed all of my AP exams, earning the AP Scholar with Distinction award. Additionally, I scored an exemplary 34 out of 36 on the ACT, and can offer test prep services for the ACT as well as the SAT.

The most rewarding part of my job is getting to watch a student implement a concept that we have worked on mastering together! I love working with students to achieve their educational goals, and try to remain flexible, as to best meet each student's individual needs. I was recruited by my AP Calculus teacher in 2019 to begin tutoring a local middle school student in mathematics. I continued to work with said student throughout the year, until he moved in 2020. I have also tutored several other students since 2019, and can provide references if desired.

During my senior year of high school, I took a certified Teacher Cadets course through my local university, and spent time working alongside a teacher in an elementary school classroom face-to-face with students as part of my course-sponsored classroom internships. Here, I learned skills for helping students focus and manage tasks, as well as gaining additional experience working with students.

About the lesson

When working with a new student, I like to spend the first session getting familiar with one another, establishing what the student's goals and needs are, and setting up a system that will best help the student in our future sessions. If the student wishes, we can begin working on content during the very first session. If not, we can spend additional time discussing what classwork/homework the student needs to bring to the next session, and prepare to begin material at the next session.

I have tutored middle and high school students, but have also had experience working with elemntary school students through my Teacher Cadets program. Additionally, I have experience working with students with ADHD, and am willing to adapt as much as possible to fit a students' individual needs.

I would advise a student looking to hire a tutor to reach out personally to tutors that interest them, to ensure that you are a good fit for one another. The best learning experience will occur if both the student and the tutor are comfortable with one another, and are prepared to work hard to cover the desired subject material.
