About Katia

There are many people that can recite material back to students, but very few of them can connect with students and relay the information that is both understandable and interesting. As a life-long learner and am passionate about the topics I study, and truly believe that learning should (and can) be fun for anyone! I pride myself in serving as a resource for my students both in their studies and in any other academic or career-related questions they may have. I want to work with students to create learning plans that work best for them.

As a student myself, I know what it feels like to be stuck in a particular subject-area or struggling with a difficult class. Because of that, I also know what it feels like when something finally clicks in your brain. I strive to help my students achieve that "clicking", and I love helping them understand and truly LOVE that content they're learning, making connections between the subject matter in a variety of difference classes. Over all, I enjoy helping other students achieve the academic goals they have set for themselves.

I was raised in Southern California but moved to Chicago to pursue my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Global Health at Northwestern University. I have just received my Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology from UCLA, and am back to Chicago where I'll be starting medical school at the Feinberg School of Medicine!

I have many years of experience teaching others, both officially and unofficially. I have been tutoring essay-writing for 5+ years now, and have served as a teaching assistant for a Neuroscience course at UCLA (relevant topics include Neuroscience, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics) for two years. Additionally, I have taken many STEM courses throughout my (now almost 20+ years of) schooling and have an extensive knowledge and nuance of a wide variety of subjects.

Other certifications include CPT II (Phlebotomy) and BLS (Basic Life Services), rendering me an invaluable resource for other general health and health-services related questions and tutoring. In addition to my interest in science and writing, I have a deep passion for helping others and spend much of my free time volunteering in and outside of the medical field.

About the lesson

I have worked with primarily High-School and College-Level Students, but have much experience with younger children as well.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about their short and long-term goals for their education. After that, they should prioritize what they'd like to accomplish. I can work to create these goals and deadlines with students who feel they are stuck during this brain-storming process. Once those goals are in place, we can work together to accomplish them at a pace that is reasonable and timely.
