About Luke

I can look at a problem with fresh eyes. As a tutor while in high school and college, I have experience helping students grasp and understand complicated mathematical problems.

I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021 with degrees in Mathematics and Political Science. After working for a year in publishing, I decided to enroll in law school, and am actively pursuing a law degree. This degree constantly exercises my logical reasoning and critical thinking skills, while also challenging me to write effectively.

I like seeing something complicated 'click' for someone when they did not understand it before. In math, that click is often the spark towards a much greater understanding of the math problem at issue. In writing, that is finding the best way to put a thought into words.

I began tutoring in high school and continued while an undergraduate student. Now a law student, I'm hoping to get back into tutoring.

I've tutored students on a variety of mathematical subjects throughout my senior year of college, from Algebra to Differential Equations. I also briefly volunteered with the Perry County Literacy Council last summer.

About the lesson

I would first try to find where they are on a problem by asking them to complete a problem by themselves. Taking note of exactly where they trip up will show me where to focus the student to show the most improvement. After working together to try to figure out where in the problem they are struggling, repetition ensures that the process is ingrained in the student's mind.

High school, college aged students, and adult students.

Look for someone who puts you at the center of the lesson. Everyone learns differently, and lessons have to be shaped around the learner, not the tutor.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Look through problems or essays that you have done in the past that both graded well and poorly. Examine them critically to try to identify where the differences between the two arise. With math: Is there a certain type of problem that causes difficulty? Where do these difficulties begin within the problem? For writing: Is it a certain portion of the essay that is unclear, such as the conclusion or the body? Is clarity in writing causing difficulty? This is a good mental exercise for a student, but should not be overdone: If you cannot identify what is causing the difficulty or the search is causing stress, I can help.
