About Adrian
I focus on understanding. Being able to solve specific problems or types of problems is a worthy goal that will get you better grades-- but if you internalize underlying ideas you are more flexible, and have solved the larger-scale problem... and getting better grades is just downstream from that.
I enjoy when an idea clicks in a student's mind, because I know how cool it is to finally get something. I also quite enjoy explaining stuff I like (math, physics, music).
I have a Bachelor's degree in physics from MIT. I took some math classes too, but even just the physics required a good amount of math, so I can easily teach any high school math.

First tutoring session will be gauging understanding as well as seeing what is expected in class/on tests.
After that I appreciate seeing homework/test problems that have proved to be tricky, and going through them with the student to see where intuition is lacking. From there we can improve the overarching picture and not only solve the problems but suddenly be able to understand other problems.
High school students
If you know the categories of things you don't know, and have some example problems, that makes things a lot smoother.
However, there's often unknown unknowns, so regardless, I use the first tutoring session to plan future tutoring.
I tutored a student, and I was hoping she was understanding things well before her exam, and she got an A! That made me quite pleased.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Where in trying to solve this/do this do you get stuck?
Are there any things you know you need help with?

Perfect! He helped my daughter with Algebra 2. She has a test tomorrow and feels confident that she will pass
