About Kelly

My tutoring process emphasizes inquiry-based learning, which means that we'll discover solutions together by asking questions! My students learn to ask targetted questions as they approach unfamiliar problems, which is a lifelong skill for their math careers.

I love seeing the "ah-ha" moments when something finally clicks! When these happen continuously, I also observe a greater level of confidence in students. This confidence is as key to success in math as numbers are, so I love seeing students become more sure of themselves in the subject!

I have two years of tutoring experience with highschool students in various subjects, including math. The program I worked with, AVID, incorporated tutoring, study skills, and test-prep.

In addition, I have completed all levels of college calculus and differential equations with A's in each course, which aids my understanding of math at basic and higher levels. I have also taken several physics courses, which further enforce applications of math concepts. In highschool, I earned a 35/36 on the math section of the ACT, a 760/800 on the math 2 subject test, and a 5/5 on the AP Calculus BC exam.

About the lesson

If we meet in person, I can take you to some of the best study spots on Tufts University's campus or come to your home. Otherwise, tutoring can easily take place over Zoom.

After getting to know each other, we'll take a look at some math problems in your area of interest. Using an inquiry-based learning process, where I ask questions that guide you in the right direction, we'll work through some problems in each topic.

Once you become comfortable with this method, you'll gain an important skill: asking the right questions to discover the solutions independently.

From there, I may ask additional questions to assess the depth of your understanding. Math can often feel repetitive or mundane on the surface level, and it is often difficult to judge whether we truly "get" what is happening. I'll help you to not only apply math skills, but understand why they work and why they are important in real life!
