I started by tutoring peers around final exams time. I have also volunteered my time working with elementary school students at local libraries.

I usually would like to spend time just getting to know the student and discussing their favorite learning styles and what has worked for them in the past. I would like to review any class syllabi related to the material they want to study so that I best understand what they need to achieve. I can help go through and review homework problems and help prepare for tests using study guides and practice problems.
I have worked with high-schoolers, college-level students and also elementary-school aged students.
Just because something is hard at first does not mean you cannot be good at it. Some of the most skilled and intelligent people got to where they are because they learned how to work hard at it.
I recently finished my second to last semester of college and am very excited to continue down my path towards engineering and materials science.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It may be tricky, but students should internally evaluate what exactly is stumping them about a particular problem or subject. Sometimes isolating the root cause of confusion may be tricky, but being able to do that allows others to help more efficiently.
