About Karen
I have a Classics background with decades of experience tutoring a range of subjects to students of all ages. I have an interdisciplinary approach to learning, and a grasp on subject material from many angles.
I love when I am able to help students acheive a real understanding of the material they are trying to learn. I do not believe in relying on rote memorization. I want my students have a firm grasp on why we developed each technique in the first place.
Many years ago, I taught gymnastics and ran a special travelling fitness program for local schools.
I am a certified teacher in New Jersey. I have a BA in Classics and Latin, and an MA in Law. I also completed a certificate program in Paralegal Studies. I have many years' experience tutoring and substitute teaching. I have experience managing educational programs, and have worked with children with special needs. I also tutor adults for GED preparation and ESOL.

I tutor a variety of subjects to students of all ages, so my process depends on what the student needs. Math students usually have assigned work that they need assistance with. I supplement this with review material, games, and activities. I have a full curriculum prepared for my ESOL students that includes grammar, syntax, reading comprehension, and writing exercises. I add videos and games for fun and learning. My Latin students follow various textbooks, but I like to add study materials that provide a strong foundation in syntax for a better grasp of the language. My social studies students often benefit from doing online research together, and discussing the best ways to analyze and present what we find. When it comes to science, I am the type of teacher who wants to ensure that concepts are understood in real, practical terms. Watching videos can assist with this goal. However, I find simple hands-on demonstrations that the student may be able to do at home, even just folding or tearing paper, are best!
I have many years' experience tutoring and substitute teaching. I have experience managing educational programs, and have worked with children with special needs. I also tutor adults for GED preparation and ESOL. I teach all ages of students, from 3-93 years old.
Think about the kind of lessons you want from your tutor. Would you simply like help finishing your homework, or do you want your tutor to personalize lessons for you and give you additional assignments to do each week? Do you want you tutor to make the subject more challenging and delve deeper to ensure that you have a firm grasp of the subject? Or, do you feel overwhelmed and want to concentrate on finishing your current assignment in as few simple steps as possible? The more easily you are able to communicate what you need to your tutor, the greater benefit you will get out of your session. Make sure that you choose a tutor that you are able to converse with freely.
I tutor incarcerated students who want to obtain their high school diploma. This past year, all 9 of my Math students passed the GED and were able to walk for a graduation ceremony.

Perfect! I liked how patient and how she teached me about 2 subjects I was struggling with online school . She taught me different than my teachers do which was refreshing and more helpful to me to understand the information. I like how kind and understanding she was. I also liked how she could share the screen for me to understand the information and where she was looking at . Overall very helpful and glad I reached out to her. Very thankful that she was able to do this because now I understand the information alot better our session was about an hour to an hour and ten minutes . Shes very helpful and you should really check her out sometime . She is so sweet and considerate and understanding. Definitely give her a call and you won't regret it
