About Tom
I have an extensive history in tutoring. I have been tutoring professionally for over a decade and have been employed both in private tutoring services and as a teacher for both high school and university. As a high school teacher, I taught Conceptual and AP Physics, as well as Beginner and AP Computer Science and assisted in preparing our school's competition math team.
I am currently a PhD candidate in Nuclear Physics and have a strong background in Mathematics and Computer Science.
My services are centered around a student based approach. Not every student learns in the same manner, and as such, not every student should be taught in the same manner. This is difficult to do in a classroom setting, which is why tutoring can be such a valuable resource. I modify my approach based on how the student prefers information to be presented and the pace to what best suits them.
I am capable of teaching, and have taught, mathematics from pre-k through advanced undergraduate level, every level of physics, and have much to offer anyone beginning to learn programming.
I love helping students understand the underlying concepts that surround Mathematics and Physics. Far too often these subjects are taught as processes that are to be followed, instead of as curiousities to be explored, and as someone who is very passionate about both subjects, I feel they have much more to offer everyone than is typically presented.
I began tutoring in high school, and since then have realized I have a passion for teaching. I taught high school for one year immediately after completing my undergraduate degree and intend to seek an academic position upon completion of my PhD.

At first it is important to understand how a student best responds to different methods of teaching. Every student has a different preffered method of learning, and it is my job to find out what that is and adapt to it.
I have worked with literally every possible type of student, from pre-k through advanced undergraduates. I have worked with accelerated students and remedial students. I have tutored people from ages 4 to 50.
Look at the teachers credentials and their history teaching. It is valuable to be a good and experienced teacher in this subject area, but there are a lot of concepts that are difficult to convey without a very in-depth understanding of the subject matter.
It is important to find someone who is both very knowledgeable and capable of sharing that knowledge.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In my opinion, if a student has any concern, it is helpful to share it immediately. I truly believe that there are no stupid questions, or ridiculous requests, when it comes to teaching.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Tom tutored me in Physics for my entry level undergraduate classes. He was very patient with me, and helped me grasp some concepts that my professors didn't explain very well. I would definitely recommend if you're interested in understanding the material, as well as doing well in the class!
Tom has a relaxed approach that made it easier for me to learn the material than the approach of my professor. He’s obviously very knowledgeable about Physics and can explain things in many different ways, so he’s always able to find a way to explain it that I can understand.
