I first started tutoring in college because a friend asked for help in economics statistics. She told me I was so helpful tgat she insist on paying me. I refused, but then when my children became students, I found great satisfaction in helping them with their subjects throughout elementary and secondary school. I tutored all 4 of them for their ACT and SAT and each achieved an average increase in their scores of about 33%. My son earned a full ride scholarship as a result! His soccer team heard of his success and all the parents started asking for my services and I happily served his whole soccer team. Aftwrwards, I found myself with time on my hands, so I decided to volunteer at our local test prep center just because I truly enjoyed the process of learning with my students. I became nationally certified through them and have been tutoring ever since. I have now tutored over 300 students ranging from really struggling students to valedictorians. This test requires coaching as with anything in life! We can all learn from experience and a caring coach!

1. The Professor scored a 36 on the ACT, a 1570 on the SAT, and earned a 4.0 GPA in High School, and a 3.9 GPA in College.

2. The Professor and some of his staff are ex-ACT / SAT Tutors for a large, national learning organization like Huntington Learning Center or Sylvan.

About the lesson

1. Introductory Phone Call or a FREE tutoring session or BOTH (15-30 minutes, overview of program, approach, your learning needs)

2. Diagnostic Exam: (students will take a practice test, we assess performance and develop tutoring recommendations; no commitment, no charge)

3. Initial Program Consultation (30-60 minute overview of our recommendations and a walkthrough of our personalized tutoring program; no commitment, no charge)

4. First Session / Begin Program (if student and/or parent is ready to move forward, we plan the tutoring schedule, establish logistics, and begin tutoring; pay-as-you-go, no contracts)

4. Post-Tutoring Debrief and Student Satisfaction Survey (we believe in the quality of our services and if you are not complete satisfied, we will discuss post-tutoring options to resolve any concerns.)

All ages from K - 16, all levels from ADHD to Hyperfocused, from failing students to valedictorians. I’ve worked with all types successfully.

Remember: “There's no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher.” My philosophy is this: I work for you. Not you for me. It is my job to understand you, how you best learn, how best to connect the material to your brain, and give you everything you need to grow. It’s just your job to show up with a good, hard-working, patient attitude, and the magic can happen.

If a tutor gives you the sense he/she is not helping you every step along the way, it’s time to consider a different tutor. I like to offer my students a free session to start to “try me out” to make sure we gel and fit and communicate. A tutor who doesn’t offer that has got the wrong focus.

My focus is on you. Because my sessions and your relationship with me is always all about you!

One ADHD-diagnosed student achieved a 34 on his ACT after scoring 21 on his first attempt. 6 months with me, and he added 13 points to his score, earned a half tuition scholarship, and writes me today thanking me for my help along his journey! Go John!

Perfect! I cannot thank James Fermin Math Tutoring enough for the incredible impact he had on my son’s success.

When my son started AP Precalculus as a sophomore in high school, he was having a very difficult time. During the first quarter, he was failing several tests and his overall grade had fallen to a low C. We knew he was capable of much more, but he needed a teacher who could explain the material in a way that truly made sense.

From the very beginning, James was patient, encouraging, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He helped my son build a strong understanding of the concepts instead of simply memorizing formulas. As my son’s confidence grew, so did his grades.

By the end of the school year, my son had raised his average to 89 percent, a tremendous improvement from where he had started. Then came the biggest accomplishment of all. When the AP Precalculus exam results were released, he earned a 5, the highest score possible. This is an achievement earned by only the strongest students and is a testament to both my son’s hard work and James’s outstanding instruction.

James did far more than help my son improve his grade. He gave him the confidence, knowledge, and problem solving skills to succeed at the highest level. So, I got on the phone with James and asked him to tell me in 5 minutes why he thought I should hire him. And, I remember him communicating his approach and tactics - all good, but most importantly, I just got the feeling that he would treat my son like his own to get him ready for the SAT Test. And that's what he truly delivered - A very personalized, supportive, 1:1, top notch, learning experience, as strong or better than Princeton Review that a parent would want delivered to his/her child. I found James after interviewing multiple tutors for my sons—one a high school senior, the other a college freshman—and he immediately stood out. Not only is James knowledgeable across multiple subjects, but he also genuinely cares about his students. Hiring James turned out to be one of the best decisions we made.

I not only got 100% on it after working with him for three hours but I retained the information I learned related to calculating tax rate elasticity. I can do the work on my own. James was great help--this was my first class using Excel formulas, which was a big adjustment. My final grade at the end of the quarter was a high "A." I recommend working with James because he listens and he wants you to understand the material--not just turn in an assignment.
